Creating Democracy Workshop: A participatory workshop on how to change laws and assert citizen authority and power took place on January 31, 2008, in Wooster, Ohio.

THE WORKSHOP IS FOR CITIZENS…

  • Who want more power by learning new skills and strategies to benefit and protect their families, communities and environment.
  • Who feel that public officials, regulatory agencies and business corporations have too much power or don’t listen to citizens and their concerns.
  • Who want to create or make more effective a community group that can influence public policy, create laws directly and/or create viable local alternatives.

The Progressive Network will be conducting future Creating Democracy Workshops. For more info, contact Betsy Sheets at 330-749-5112 or betsyblossom@hotmail.com

Land Use: We are working to help build a sustainable and community based approach to land use and preservation in Wayne County.

We worked with area groups and churches to bring the Eyes Wide Open Memorial to Wooster in Wayne County. The Eyes Wide Open Memorial is the American Friends Service Committee’s widely-acclaimed exhibition on the human cost of the Iraq War. It features a pair of boots honoring each U.S. military casualty; a field of shoes and a Wall of Remembrance to memorialize the Iraqis killed in the conflict; and a multimedia display exploring the history, cost and consequences of the war.
